How critical is the location of GPS antennas to their expected degree of efficiency? In comparison to other devices that may be installed virtually anywhere, wireless antennas for vehicles may not perform well to their full capacity if you are not attentive to how and where they are mounted. This factor does have a substantial impact on their ability to perform their expected functions.

GPS antenna positioning has a direct correlation to the quality of collected data. Any metal that is just next to or close to the transmitter will run the risk of mucking up the signal strength. GPS signal distortions would trigger this to happen frequently without prior notice.

To obtain the greatest results, veer away from mounting your antenna too close to the roof edge. Possible ground reflections may create/cause signal interference. Also, beware of the A-pillar edges; their reflections could cause signal disruptions and glitches on your devices while inside your vehicle. 

You can have your antenna installed as high as you deem necessary but see to it that it’s above any roll bars. Metal parts or components that are in close range to the antenna or just above the antenna are likely to cause signal disturbances, too.

We propose that you mount your antenna as high as possible and, if there are any roll bars, make sure it is above them. Metal objects close to and above an antenna will undoubtedly impair the GPS signal. This translates to frequent signal disruptions. 

For Non-Magnetic Surfaces

Any kind of tape, including fabric tape, can be used to secure your car antenna for GPS, provided that it is not metallic. Non-metallic tapes sitting on top of the antenna will not affect it. Nevertheless, we propose that you place the adhesive tape directly above, not underneath, the GPS antenna. By doing so, you can be certain that it will work seamlessly with the metal or aluminum surface.

If your car does not come equipped with some kind of metal roofing system, your GPS antenna can be mounted on a piece of metal. But, you must ensure that it is flat and has a diameter of approximately 10 cm.

If you position your antenna on something other than a big ground plane, such as while carrying your device by hand, you can arrange a metal sheet directly beneath the antenna, like copper or silver foil.

Due to the extra size that these GPS antennas come in, they may command a higher price tag than those of the conventional antennas supplied with a VBOX. You can mount them on a sturdy standing pole to enhance their height.

The cardinal rule to follow here is that your antenna must maintain constant contact with the GPS satellites, which are just right above the skies. Mount them in such a way that their signal will not be hampered. 

Because of their reliability, mounting your antenna on the side of your vehicle should be sufficient to maintain decent reception. Additionally, the location is secure and strategic, helping to conceal the antenna while also keeping it in place.

When determining where to install your antenna with GPS capabilities, we propose having it on the dashboard. Alternatively, you can hide it under the back deck. If it travels into the sky and skips two-way antennas, it should work correctly with satisfying results.
